What do you need to clear Customs?

To clear your goods with Customs and Border Protection, you need to supply:

  • Arrival notice from shipping company who issued your bill of lading
  • Bill of lading, airway bill, or carrier’s certificate where you are named as the consignee
  • A commercial invoice – This needs to have the value and descriptions of the goods your importing
  • Arrival manifest, Arrival/Immediate Delivery, or other required Customs forms
  • Packing list and other supporting documents, which will be used by Customs to determine whether merchandise should be admitted into the U.S.
Importing to the United States

When importing goods they are subject to Customs duties, taxes, and fees. All goods that enter the United States must clear Customs and Border Protection.

Customs clearance involves entry, inspection, appraisement, classification, and liquidation. You are required to declare a value for your goods and determine a classification number.
